My budget isn't appearing on a new device

Make sure the same Apple Account is signed in on both devices and that iCloud is turned on for Embers. A new device shows that its budget is on the way while the first download comes down; a large budget can take a few minutes on a slow connection. Keep the app open until it arrives.

Saving and restoring a backup

Open More → Backups on iPhone and iPad, or Settings → Backups on the Mac, and choose Save Backup. Backups are stored in iCloud Drive, in the Embers folder. Restoring a backup replaces the budget on every synced device with the one in the file, so save a fresh backup first if you might want today's budget back.

Importing from YNAB

In YNAB, export your plan; you'll get a zip file. In Embers, open Import and choose that zip — there's no need to unpack it. Accounts whose names end in a currency code, like "Savings (EUR)", are given that currency.

Exchange rates and the bank fee

Set your usual foreign-transaction fee under Currency & FX, and override it for any account in that account's settings. Rates refresh about once a day and are kept for offline use. If your bank used a different rate, type it in when you enter the amount.

Changing the language

On iPhone and iPad, open the Settings app → Apps → Embers → Language (More → Language in Embers takes you there). On the Mac, use System Settings → General → Language & Region → Applications. The change applies the next time Embers opens.

Reminders aren't arriving

Check that notifications are allowed for Embers in your device's Settings and that the reminder you want is turned on in Embers' Reminders settings. Reminders come at 9 in the morning or 7 in the evening, local time.
